A Christmas with World Class Opulence & Simple Home Comfort Furniture

Hooker dining room set.

How exciting it is to find ourselves in the Christmas Season and indeed in the Christmas spirit!  Whether fancy or familiar, this time of year, as we welcome family and friends, we want our homes to reflect the festivities and the many celebrations that are bound to take place.

What better place for friends and family to gather around than a beautiful table, like the Archivist Trestle Table from Hooker Furniture.  The Archivist Collection is inspired by a French aesthetic with just enough farmhouse design to make it the perfect centerpiece to welcome your holiday guests.  And speaking of hosting guests, you can invite a lot of them when you are dining around the Archivist! With two 18-inch leaves, the table extends 122 inches long and gracefully accommodates two armchairs and six side chairs.

As part of the Archivist Collection, and the perfect accompaniment to the Archivist table is the matching Archivist sideboard by Hooker.  The Archivist sideboard combines classic American and European styling cues and is generously proportioned.  Other functional features include a pull-out surface and four doors with an adjustable wood shelf behind the right and left doors and an adjustable wood shelf behind the center doors and a drawer with a silverware tray.

Do you have special Holiday dinnerware, flatware, or curios that you would like to showcase during your Christmas gathering?   We invite you to take a look at the spacious Archivist display cabinet.  As with the other pieces in the Archivist Collection, the display cabinet captures the inspiration of a French salon with the comfort and accessibility found within the American farmhouse tradition.

If by now you are under the impression that the Archivist Collection by Hooker offers both world-class opulence while providing simple home comfort, you would be correct and that is why we love it so much!  If you would like to learn more about this collection, or any design inspirations, we welcome you to contact a professional, knowledgeable, creative Ennis interior designer.  They love nothing more than to help you make your design dreams come true!

And, from all of us at Ennis Fine Furniture, we wish you a blessed Christmas Season!

Make Way For The Holidays!

The Holidays are upon us! Are you planning on having guests over to help celebrate the Season but believe your house may be a bit cluttered? Here are some helpful tips that may assist you in clearing up some space for the entertaining you want to do this season. And, at the same time, make your home-space more peaceful and uncluttered.

Donate!

A great way to clear additional room in your home for the Holidays is by donating the décor, furniture, and cluttering items to your favorite charity! Items that you may look at first are, of course, items that have no sentimental value to you. Décor can bring visual and physical bulk and clutter to your living space. You may look around your room and see a dried flower arrangement on a table, desk, or mounted on the wall and suddenly realize you placed it there in 1994. This may be a good time to donate it. Bulky furniture items that tend to trespass into throughways and pathways are perfect candidates for removing to gain space. Think of that old end-table that you have banged your foot on multiple times over the years. Donating it will not only clear more space in your home, but it may also just feel quite satisfying! Tip: if an item truly brings you joy, regardless of how “cluttering” it may be, hang on to it. Your joy is enough reason to have it in your life. For those items you do decide to donate, we can assume they will bring joy to someone else! Afterall, Joy is what the Holiday Season is all about!

Rearrange Your Living Space!

It is amazing how just a little time experimenting with how your furniture and décor are laid out can make a big difference in the usable space of a room. We recommend roughly sketching (or beautifully sketching if you are capable!) your living space out on a notepad with your furniture and décor. Experiment by drawing your furniture and décor items in different locations of the room. Use as many pages as necessary and experiment with different layouts! You will want to pay special attention to walkways, opens areas, and light because your goal is to create more space and less clutter. Once you believe you have the new layout right, it is time to bring in “the troops” to help move your furniture!

Tidy Up!

Look around your living space with a critical eye as this may lead to revelations for making way for the Holidays. Do you have 1, 2, or 3+ too many decorative pillows and or throw blankets taking up space on the sofa and chairs in your home? Removing those items to a linen closet or storage trunk will provide additional seating space and create a cleaner presentation for both you and your guests. Another area of the home that may need attention during the Holidays is your entryway. Shoes, sweaters, & coats that normally reside in these areas can provide clutter and should be organized in appropriate storage areas and closets while you are entertaining. Speaking of the entryway closet- you will want to make sure there is room for your guests’ winter coats when they come to call!

Add Something New!

Nothing can revitalize a room like a new piece of furniture. You may want to “go big” with a completely new take on the room with the new furniture and décor to match, or you may decide just one anchor piece, like a buffet table, is enough. We recommend that you choose an item that gives you joy and will be around for many more holiday seasons to come.

Bring In a Professional!

Regardless of the time of year, if you are ready to bring in a fresh set of eyes to help you reimagine and beautify your space, then it may be time to bring in a professional. The professional home designers at Ennis Fine Furniture can help you reimagine your living space, not just for the Holiday Season, but for your everyday life all year long.

The Features that Make Every Holiday gathering a Success

The Holidays are all about spending times with friends and family. Inviting your loved ones over for a small gathering or a larger party can be a wonderful way to celebrate. You just need to make sure you have everything set up for that big meal!

Consider a New Buffet Line

Sitting down for a formal dinner is always nice, but for some events, it can be better to go with a setup that’s a little more mobile. This year, organizing a buffet line might be the way to go—(especially if you have a new buffet table from Ennis to showcase). Your guests can simply grab a plate and load it up with all of their favourites. Then everyone can eat at their own pace. Some people might naturally migrate to your dining table, while others might choose to munch on a few snacks in the living room. It’s nice to offer different seating choices, especially when you’re serving a crowd.

Dress-up the Beverage Cart

Having a separate area for your beverage selection can also help keep the traffic moving. This is an important detail for those big meals and long guest lists! A great bar cart stocked with everything you need for your signature cocktail is sure to get some compliments.

These pieces are great for other treats too. Your beverage cart doesn’t have to be reserved for adults. You can have a stylish hot chocolate cart for the kids, for example, complete with whipped cream, sprinkles, and chocolate sauce. Or you might go the route of sharing soda in those classic, glass bottles. Getting a little fancy is always appreciated.

Enhance with Holiday Scents

After everyone has had their fill, you can start to replace the smell of good food with a different fragrance. There are plenty of ways to create the perfect atmosphere. Embracing your sense of smell can invoke all sorts of fond memories for you and your guests. Maybe a hint of vanilla can remind everyone of Nan’s best sugar cookies. Or the scent of cedar might help everyone feel even more relaxed by the fire.

It’s easy to light a few scented candles around the living room. But you can also make your own customized fragrances at home. All you need is a pot of water or a slow cooker and an assortment of fruit or spices. Just cover your goodies in water and set it to simmer. This recipe for homemade simmering spices calls for orange peel, apple slices, cinnamon sticks, and fresh ginger. You can also add cardamom, cloves, star anise, or any other spices in your cabinet! Playing around with different combinations can be a lot of fun.

Your home should reflect your style at every turn. From the holiday scents in the air, to the new furniture items you chose this year, everything you bring into your home has a story. We would love to help you find your next great piece. Come browse our selection at Ennis Fine Furniture. We know you’ll see something truly special!
